Boulder County Traffic Problems Examined on Internet
Users Given Opportunity to Weigh in at Web Site
BOULDER, CO - The Boulder County Consortium of Cities posted results of their
interactive web site, http://www.co.boulder.co.us/trafficjam/, addressing growing
traffic problems in the area. The site was meant to both inform and solicit opinions
from residents.
The site devotes sections to six travel areas: Diagonal Highway, Arapahoe Road, Boulder
Turnpike, U.S. 287, Boulder Canyon and the North Foothills Highway. Each section
reports on the current status of the travel corridor, giving figures on travel time,
speed and trips per day. Each section also speculates on future statistics, in light
of increased development and congestion.
While the web site offers a report on traffic woes plaguing Boulder County, it also
offers remedies as suggested by the Regional Transportation Task Force. The Task Force
hoped that users would voice their opinions through the web site. The Boulder County
Consortium of Cities solicited resident input with an interactive on-line survey, asking
residents to respond to various scenarios on a five point scale. With the state and
federal governments unlikely to produce sufficient funds for solutions, Boulder County
sought out public support for necessary tax measures.
Boulder County web developer, Total Site, Inc., produced the site, giving careful
consideration to the on-line survey and the user experience in general. Since its
inception in 1998, Total Site has taken on web projects in a variety of industries. In
addition to government contracts, Total Site also boasts expertise in corporate web
identities, ecommerce solutions, web applications, internet marketing and email
management.
